Monster Concert - Saturday, November 15, 2025!

What is the Monster Concert?

The Monster Concert is a fun, non-adjudicated opportunity for elementary and intermediate piano students to get together and play duets, trios and quartets under the baton of a director.  We also have a student T-shirt design contest.  The winner's design is featured on the Monster Concert's T-shirt for that year, which the students wear during the performance.

2025 Dates and Location

The Monster Concert is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Lacefield Music, 112 Chesterfield Valley Road, Chesterfield, MO 63005, at 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm.  Many, many thanks to Dwyane and Pete at Lacefield Music for graciously hosting us every year! 

Lacefield has graciously offered the use of their piano lab space for mandatory rehearsals.  The mandatory rehearsal is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 8 (a week before the concert).  

Registration/T-Shirt Design Fees and Deadline

Registration and t-shirt entry design contest deadline is October 15, 2025.  Registration fee is $22 per student and $22 per teacher.  The fees are nonrefundable.

2025 Monster Concert T-Shirt Design Contest Rules

1)    Entries are to be black-and-white drawings only (think of how it will look on a t-shirt)

2)    The t-shirt theme should include a musical monster

3)    Email entries to Monster Concert Chair at slamta.monsterconcertchair@gmail.com

○     Include the student’s name and grade in your email

4)    The deadline to submit entries is October 15 at 11:59 pm (no exceptions)

5)    All entries will be emailed to SLAMTA membership and posted on SLAMTA’s Facebook page for voting October 16-21

6)    Winner will be announced October 22

7)    Teachers or their designee will need to pick up their students’ t-shirts at Gail Larson’s house before the Mandatory Rehearsal.

Short List of Requirements

Students must be ready to perform the pieces at the designated metronome markings as noted on the music.  Teachers and their students must be able to attend the mandatory rehearsal and be available to attend either 1:00 pm or 2:30 pm time slot for the Monster Concert on November 15. 

ELIGIBILITY

SLAMTA piano teachers, their students and their families are welcome to participate.  

REGISTRATION FEES 

  • $22 for each performer 

  • $22 for each teacher 

  • Parents may play for no additional fee

  • Teachers will submit one payment for all of their performers.  Pay your registration fees by PayPal.  Be sure to answer the question, "What's this for?" with"2025 Monster Concert Registration fees."  Registration fee is due on October 15, 2025 by 11:59 pm.

  • If paying by check, mail it to Bethany Nikstad, SLAMTA Treasurer, at 3301 Magnolia Ave., St. Louis, MO 63118, and note "2025 Monster Concert" in the memo of the check.  Please notify Monster Concert Chair that you are paying your registration fees by check.

GUIDELINES

1. We encourage younger performers to be paired with an adult or advanced performer. Parents and teachers are welcome and encouraged to perform with their students at any of the levels, but especially the Elementary/Late Elementary pieces.

2. Be able to perform at the designated/published tempo marks.  We will confirm the tempo markings after registration.

3. Implement the printed expression marks

4. Follow a conductor while playing

5. Make necessary changes based on the conductor’s instructions.

It is the teacher's responsibility to see that their performers are fully prepared.

Concert is free to the public

As this is not an adjudicated event, music selections are intended to be accessible and entertaining to encourage more participation. Performers may select one or all of the pieces listed on the repertoire list.  In some cases, students may find themselves able or wanting to play in more than one grade. Performers, though, must be able to play at suggested performance tempo.

  • T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST

    Every year we have a t-shirt designed to commemorate the Monster Concert.  Students are welcome to enter the contest and submit a picture of their artwork to slamta.monsterconcertchair@gmail.com.  Entries are due by Sunday, October 19, 2024, 11:59 pm and will be voted on SLAMTA's facebook webapge.  The winner will be announced by October 24, 2024.
