As November 2016 comes to an end, we celebrate the people and events of the past months. Our program co-chairs, Jocelyn Rugaber and Annie Tzeng launched the year by inviting Dr. Teresa McCollough who presented a fascinating program of 20th and 21st century music followed by a master class. Thanks to Amanda Kirkpatrick who coordinated the Young Artist Winners’ Recital at Christ Church Cathedral in October. On November 13, 2016 pianist Sean Chen gave a wonderful solo recital for teachers and students. Hailed as a charismatic rising star with “an exceptional ability to connect with an audience combined with an easy virtuosity” (Huffington Post), 27-year-old American pianist Sean Chen, third prize winner at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and 2013 DeHaan Classical Fellow of the American Pianists Association, has contin- ued to earn accolades for “alluring, colorfully shaded renditions” (New York Times) and “genuinely sensitive” (LA Times) playing. District Audition News

Many thanks goes to Oksana Sphringman who so successfully coordinated the 2016 District Auditions. The halls of St. Charles Communtity College were filled with the 326 very excited and extremely talented young musicians ranging in age from 6-18 years. Congratulations to the 268 students receiving a "1" rating which allows them to enter the State Auditions at Evangel University, November 2-6. Best of luck to the 248 piano soloists, 19 duet partners and the string player who will travel to Springfield, Missouri to compete at state.
